Diagnosis seems to get worse each time

Have had copy of CT report. Seeing my oncologist later. Confirms that there are liver mets as well as the tumour in the bowel. Also raises concerns that there are mets in the lung and peritoneal as well. I just don't understand how I can go from feeling well - which I still do to basically being riddled with cancer. It seems that my situation is completely hopeless - 44 and got 3 kids. Just finding it difficult to keep moving forward at moment.

  • Such a difficult post sending a big northern hug your way.

Get all your questions ready and wait until you have seen the oncologist later. Fear of the unknown is the worst!  you can make it seem much more worse than in reality it is.

Once you know whats happening and what the plan is to deal with it. You should feel more in control of the situation.

Focus on your family and being there for them.  You can do this  & everyone on here will be with you through it all.

  • Hi  ,

it is a scary time.  However there is so much that can be done these days.

I was also completely well until I started the treatment so I understand that feeling.

take one step at a time, write down all your questions, ideally take someone with you to your appointment but if you can’t try to record the meeting as you will mishear things and/ or forget what was said.

    sending you best wishes!

  • Hi

It’s very tough to hear . Have you got a cell type yet ? Are treatments like immunotherapy available to you .

Some people do very well on chemo for years using it like a maintenance drug .

My mum had a lot of spread in her liver and the chemo shrank it right back .

Hopefully you will be a great responder to treatment.

    Take care ,

  • Thanks for all the replies. They men a lot.

Had a good meeting with my oncologist who was pragmatic but bullish and said absolutely no reason not to be hopeful.

MDT meets Friday and may be under the knife for the bowel tumour next week.

Still waiting on the biomarkers etc to see what next line of treatment is after that.

My wife even saw a rainbow in the sky as we were talking to him.

A long and hard road ahead no doubt but feel there is hope at least

  • So sorry you have had a very tough few days. Great the oncologist was positive, treatments are so amazing now and advancing all the time.

Hold on to the rainbow and hoping you get a date for surgery v soon.
