Delay in treatment

Hi, I have had 4 cycles of Folfox and just had an extra week off for a short break with my family before cycle 5 which should have been Wednesday.

I have just been called to say following my bloods my white cells are low so not safe for me to have my treatment this week so will be delayed.

The consultant said this is normal and nothing to worry about and hopefully I will be fine for next Wednesday.

I just worry a 2 week break now may effect my treatment ? This is the first enforced break I have had and know this happens but just having a bit of anxiety now.

I know to trust the medical team and they will only let me have chemo if it's safe but it's frustrating as just want to crack on with the cycles.

Please try not to worry it's quite usual for white blood cells to drop during this treatment. Your extra week off will not affect your treatment. I have fortnightly FOLFOX and at end of July my levels dropped they said we'll re schedule your appointment for next week. However I had the summer planned around my treatment dates, days out with my grandchildren and a couple of weekends away. I asked if I could postpone for two weeks instead to be back in sync and they said no problem. In fact the time off made me feel much better and my levels went way up in time for next treatment.

    Hope you get on okay.

  • Thank you so much for your reply that has made me feel much better.

I am just going to make sure I eat healthy and drink plenty this week and hopefully when I have my bloods next Monday they are then ok.

I did feel very fatigued when I had my last infusion so maybe it's just carried over from then. The infusions come around quickly on the 2 week cycle so like you say a break should help my body recover.

Thanks again and hope all is well with you.
