I have just finished 4 cycles of Capecitabine but had to stop the Oxaliplatin after 2 sessions due to side effects. I am not having any side effects from the Capecetabine and my Oncologist wants to know if I want to continue for another 3 months. Any advice on this would be grateful.
Hi Mallorca cyclist Personally I would go for it. They must think it would be beneficial to suggest it?
Take care

Hi Karen, thank you for your reply. I have been reading up on the benefits of 3 or 6 months chemo and trying to make a decision. We decided that I would have another cycle and then re-assess.
As regards 3 versus 6 months, my understanding is that the conclusions that there is little difference in recurrence and survival rates between 3 and 6 months is based on a large international study, BUT only involved patients on combination like CAPOX, not on Capecitabine alone, and, most importantly only involved patients with 3 or less involved lymph nodes. I got very excited when I started to research this, but my oncologist recommends sticking to 6 months CAPOX because I had 5 affected lymph nodes. Friday sees end of round four of CAPOX and luckily very few symptoms, so will stick to it.
Thank you Chris for your reply and well done on sticking with the treatment plan. I shall take each cycle as it comes and re-evaluate with the Oncologist at my next appointment.
