APR and Hysterectomy

So only six months after my LAR surgery and an all clear my cancer is back and has spread to my uterus. I am devastated. Thought my life was back on track. Had my stoma reversed in May and things seemed manageable - not ideal but manageable. Turns out the not ideal was due to the tumour growing back at the join!

I am looking to see if any ladies on here have had a similar diagnosis. Facing a full hysterectomy, APR surgery and more chemo. I am struggling with how I am going to recover from the surgery! And how do you heal whilst on chemo!

To think my worst fear (other than cancer) last year was the thought of a permanent stoma!

I am 46 have  two young kids and have honestly had enough of this.

  • Hi CT3

I had a full hysterectomy for ovarian tumour that took about 6 weeks to recover from so don’t be put off having surgery again, you will recover. After 3 months I then had open surgery again for removal of my appendix the site of primary cancer which took another 8 weeks to recover from. I know my cancer sites are not exactly the same as yours but still the same amount of surgery. I didn’t start chemo until 12 weeks after the second surgery. Are you on chemo now?

  • Thank you for replying. I hope you are doing well now. My chemo was prior to my operation so ended in November last year. Cx

  • I’m doing well considering I had severe reaction to the Oxalapatin and I am on just in Capecetabine but probably looking at another 3 months worth. I don’t think they will start you on any chemo until you have recovered from your op. Hope all goes well xx
