ON-OFF Chemo approach

Hi Guys

Haven't posted for a while. Just enjoyed 9 months with no chemo or any form of treatment! Was meant to have a liver ablation for another met, but it disappeared 9 months ago. All good for a long while!

BUT... recent PET scan shows:  a new liver met, a bit more in the lung and some in the lymph nodes behind the peritoneum.  Very annoying as the only option offered is now chemo.  My response to chemo is always good so 'on-off' chemo is probably possible. Apparently three or so months on and then - obviously according to response - month or two off etc. - for as long as it's offered!

I'm not suitable for additional targeted therapy or immunotherapy

QUESTION: has anyone out there been on chemo for quite a while. Would love to hear from people who've been on this approach for a number of years and are still doing well.

All the best to anyone who remembers me!

  • Hello

    Long time no chat !

Glad you got a good break but always rubbish to face it again but you are a great responder .

Have you looked at the profiles of some of the moderators over on Bowel cancer U.K. ? They seem to have good success staying on chemo . I have linked a thread for your interest . Not sure how the oncoligists decide between maintenance levels of chemo or on and off approach but it might be helpful to link in and ask a few questions over there . I think there is Baxter 2 , Lirio 345 and Jane and I can’t remember the number she uses may be 39 !

Here is a link anyway and might be good to hear what they have to say for your encouragement. I think one is around the ten year mark and sure the other can’t be far off .

It’s definitely into the land of treating it like a chronic condition.

Wishing you every success once again ,

  • Hi Court

Thank you so much for your reply. Lovely to hear from you again. I will definitely check out the link.

Just enjoyed a lovely family day on our small boat. Well...apart from bumping into another boat and trapping my hand. Luckily not my right hand and only minor cuts - no bones broken!

    Very best wishes
