Any advice on sickness

My mum has recently had her treatment changed and her first infusion was last Thursday - she has been suffering terribly with nausea and sickness - she was sick again last night - only managing yoghurt and crackers - this is making her so upset too - she had her anti- sickness meds changed but not sure this has helped

is there any advice or positivity anyone can give? It’s only 2 weeks till round 2? I know they wanted to hit her hard as previous treatment hadn’t shrunk the mets and I don’t want them to stop either

  • Hi   your poor mum, bless her Cry Really the answer here lies in changing anti-sickness meds yet again-I know that generally oncology are really good at finding something that works. I would urge you to get back onto the phone and explain what's happening, so they can try something different. Best of luck X

  • Hi  Yes as Nevermind has said it’s a case of trying different meds until you fund one that works for her - I’ve heard that Emend is good x

  • Hi Annabelle

I have an infusion of Aprepitant 30 mins before chemo which helps me enormously. It’s followed by Ondanestron on evening 1 and Dexamethasone for a few days after.  This is in addition to the usual Domperadone as needed.  It’s supposed to be the top level anti sickness drug.  May be worth discussing with the team for the next cycle? Xx

  • I had 2 different anti-sickness meds. One could be taken every 6 hours and one was every 8 hours. I was told to alternate the meds and take one every 4 hours. I was also told to start before I felt sick.

It wasn't perfect. I was left with some low level nausea but didn't get sick unless I messed up on taking meds.

  • I was told to take the anti sickness meds before I felt sick so as to pre empt any problems.I followed that advice and never had any sickness whilst on capox.
