Hi, my mum was diagnosed with Bowel Cancer with liver mets last March, she had capox treatment which showed a great response and left only one small lesion. She underwent micro ablation this Jan and the results showed there had been a complete response and the one remaining lesion had gone.
She had a scan in March which showed a 'foci' on the liver (i wasn't even aware of what this meant) but the consultant said they weren't too concerned and they would monitor her with scans etc.
She has just received a phone call to say her latest scan from 2 weeks ago shows 3 lesions and have said she will have to have more treatment
Is there anyone who's been in the same position? I feel so upset at the thought of my mum having to go through treatment again. Im hoping others on here may be able to offer advice this forum was so helpful when my mum was first diagnosed and all throughout treatment
Thanks in advance x
sorry, pressed wrong button! My Mum had many small "foci" in the liver over many years due to an autoimmune disease called primary biliary cirrhosis (nothing to do with alcohol!) which meant that bile leaked into her liver as the leaky bile duct passed through it. For many years she had 6 monthly scans, and any new foci were "blitzed" with radio frequency ablation, so no surgery or chemo involved. I dont know whether it´s pertinent to you Mum´s case, but it sounds very reassuring that your Mum is in good hands, and reguarly scanned and treated.
Thanks for your reply Chris , its amazing the treatment they can offer to help the liver, it was just a shock to hear 3 lesions have appeared and it makes me worry over how fast they've appeared too. They initially said the foci could be due to scarring but now they've mentioned lesions we know they need treatment.
Just feels like being back to square one
Hi cjb.0809
Sorry to hear that . Can I just check , has your mum actually had any liver surgery ? Might be good to ask for a surgical opinion from a centre of excellence.
If you click on my user name you can see how my mums liver recurrence was treated. After the second resection she did not have any further issues with her liver although it was extensive surgery but she recovered well .
She clearly is a top responder to chemo so that’s a plus but any micro disease can grow again if not removed .
She sounds a bit like my mum . Whilst I hated seeing her have more treatment it really turned things around for her longevity.
She got another 14 years after it and that was fantastic.
take care ,

Thanks for your reply court , I read your mum's story back when I joined this forum, and told my mum as it offered so much hope and inspiration.
My mum had a liver and bowel resection a year ago, then a few months later a course of capox (she only actually ended up having 5 cycles rather than 6 as they said there was only one tiny spot left which they felt would be best treated with micro ablation).
The micro ablation was completed end of last year and they then said the scan had came back with a foci but told her to carry on as normal. It's only during the scan three months later that they've found lesions.
My mum had a ct scan of chest/abdo a couple of weeks ago, as well as an mri & pet scan. We've now just received a letter for a pelvis ct scan for next sunday, my mind has gone into overdrive - would you assume anything from this letter?
Thanks and sorry for the essay x
Hi cjb.0809
I would not assume too much to be honest . I know it’s easy to assume the worst but she has had a Pet scan and mri so they already have a lot of information .
Sounds like they are exploring options and maybe need better angles or images . Or to look more carefully at a specific area . But they would only do all this if they were exploring options .
That’s how my mind works .
Sometimes surgeons need more information before they can decide .
Hang on in there . This bit is tough as they gather the information . Most of my mums microdisease surfaced in the first few years then she got longer stretches .
Hope it’s good news soon for your mum .
Takd care ,

PS , when my mum went straight to chemo , one ct scan was enough .

I've just realised the ct scan shes been sent for is thorax abdo pelvis which is the exact same one she went for 2 weeks ago, so im not sure if its a mistake.
Its so difficult waiting on results, your mind just goes into overdrive
Your mum's story gives so much hope, thank you for sharing with us ️
A bit of a random question did your mum do anything in between treatments to help the liver? I've been looking at supplements but was a bit wary as I read it can interfere with chemo but open to any suggestions/advice really.
Thank you x
