Hello, feel a real fraud for being on here but I’m hoping to speak to people as opposed to going on google. I have health anxiety ever since my best friend died from bowel cancer 5 years ago at the age of 39. I don’t imagine symptoms but when I get pains I instantly go to worst case scenario in my mind. I’m in therapy for it but only 3 weeks in. Anyway…
I’ve been having some issues since at least January and I’m so confused tbh but I have a gut feeling inside that there is something seriously wrong somewhere and we’ve not found where yet.
I had prolapse surgery in nov to repair bladder and bowel prolapse vaginally. I’d been in a lot of pain all of last year with back pain and abdomen and pelvic pain from the organs falling down.
in January whilst I was recovering from surgery I notice a mild dull Ache in my lower abdomen.
anyway it played on my mind and on 6th march I message my gynaecologist to request a pelvic ultrasound as I was worried it was ovary related. 10 days after this I woke extremely bloated in upper abdominal area and had all the symptoms of gallbladder issues ( I was on wegovy for weight loss - so was a possibility at the time ) I was sent for US. But this wasn’t until may- the bloating issue lasted for 2 weeks and went but the discomfort in my right lower abdomen remained but didn’t get any worse. I was also struggling with constipation- I had struggled with this for the entire 15 months I was on wegovy and still are now.
Anyway the US showed nothing wrong with my upper abdomen organs except a 4mm kidney stone in my right kidney. I also had the pelvic US which was clear. Ever since the scan a month ago I’ve had nothing but upper abdominal area bloating, awful gurgling sounds in my stomach - really loud and happen every single times I lay down. I’m on laxido 1-2 sachets a day otherwise I don’t go to the toilet for days at a time.
Sometimes the discomfort in my lower right abdomen is a dull ache, sometimes a burning sensation that radiates across into my hip. Initially I thought it must be kidney stone related but I can’t imagine that kidney stone can cause a constant discomfort in that area.
I have Bupa so I went to see a gastroenterologist last week and discussed with him and he said he wasn’t overly concerned at this stage and didn’t wanna put me through a colonoscopy if not necessary so recommended a small bowel MRI and said if anything significant then it would show up on MRI and then we can do a colonoscopy if needs be. But I’m panicking.
I forgot to mention that sometimes it’s a burning sensation. I said it was a discomfort- I’ve also got lower back pain but tbh I’ve had back problems for years and I felt that’s more because of the uterus prolapse the gynae left me with. Ive even comtemolated whether it could be that just pulling more in one side?!
what I’ve noticed is the discomfort is always there, but it barely noticeable on a morning when I’ve been laid down all night, it generally isn’t worse when I stand but when I sit it’s worse and when I lay feels strange. Laying flat feels stranger in my lower abdomen area than laying with my knees bent.
the problem is I get a lot of burning in the kidney area especially when I sit in the car and I don’t know if any of it is referred pain- what I do know is that approx 5 cm across from my belly button and just above my knicker line when I press down hard it’s tender in that one spot.
im sorry for such a long post.
I’ve had 2 instances where I wasn’t sure whether my stool was steamed with blood or whether the light in the toilet water was playing tricks on my eyes- I tried dapping the stool with toilet paper and no blood went in the paper so I don’t know.
my best friend died of bowel cancer and I’m so afraid I could also have it.
this discomfort in my right abdomen just won’t go away and it’s worrying my me to death and I don’t feel I’m getting any closer to it.
im praying it’s do to with the kidney stone but the longer it goes on the less I’m believing it is?
can anyone help advice wise
thank you
Hi Debdoo welcome to the forum though I am very concerned to hear how worried that you are. Believe it or not many people who have Cancer often don't display any symptoms . Having read your post I accept all that you are saying and how you are feeling but I can't see anything that would point to a cancer and a few checks have been made by other Doctors so that is reassuring at least.. I do think this has the potential to be as a result of your health anxiety and maybe it would be a good thing to talk this through with your therapist if you felt able to do that. I think we all go to the worst case scenario and almost 100% of the time we are wrong but it doesn't take away the anxiety so you are not alone in this. Best wishes Gail
Hi granny Ty for replying. It’s concerning me most because this discomfort and tender spot is a constant everyday since at least January. It never goes. Just varies in intensity- sometimes it’s a dull ache and sometimes it’s an intense burning sensation. I notice it most when sitting or laying- I’m sat in my car right now and I feel it in the groin area- like pressure feeling, but it actually originates from around the appendix area. I can’t get my head around why I would have a constant discomfort or feeling of something there in that one spot all the time since January. My health anxiety isn’t the kinda that imagines symptoms ( I say that because I know some people’s is ) my is only brought in my physical symptoms that I have or can see that I don’t have an explanation for happening. I’ve come off hrt because I was repeatedly back
and forth to breast clinic for lumps checking which both I and my dr could feel. Always turned out to be a cyst or lumpy breast tissue.
i do have a massive fear of cancer after my friend but I am deeply worried about this discomfort in my right abdomen. As I can’t rationalise in my mind what could cause this constant sensation and so far no one has been able to tell me what’s going on.
literally the only organ I haven’t had scanned is my bowels and appendix which are the only 2 organs in that area.
the gastro dr has requested a small bowel mri- he seems to think of anything in in there which is substantial it’ll show on the mri - even in the large bowel- I can only trust his judgement- but then someone else I know said they didn’t think it would as it’s a scam for small bowel only. Which then puts my mind in doubt?
im just scared tbh.
I’m parked up so typed in a hurry so I hope my message hasn’t come across as blunt or stroppy or anything as it’s not intended that way.
I am truly appreciative of you replying and very thankful you’ve responded.
I know a lot of people with health anxiety imagine symptoms but I just wanted to clarify the way mine works. Xxx
