Possible spread to peritoneum

Hi all,

I was diagnosed with bowel cancer in Feb 2024. It was removed in April 2024 and I have 6 months of chemo to follow.

I had my first annual CT scan and they found 'something'.  It went back to MDT yesterday and they aren't sure if it's cancer or if it's not.  There is a nodule behind the join from my left hemi-colectomy within my peritoneum (although it doesn't sound like it's in the wall of ther peritoneum from what they said).  The radiologist thinks its a reoccurence, but the rest of the team aren't sure (as they are colorectal specalists and not Periotneum) so are transferring me to a different MDT team after a PET scan.

Has anyone had any positive outcomes from this kind of spread?  e.g. still on drugs but getting on with life, or had the op and it was fine.

Thanks in advance - keep strong everyone.

  • Hi

Sorry you are dealing with this .
One thing for sure it seems to be on the small side to be causing so much confusion. My mum’s recurrences were always big enough to be certain . So I guess in its own way that’s maybe a positive .

Not sure about the nodule aspect however in terms of a peritoneal spread then I have absolutely seen people have effective surgery and walk away . In fact one guy on a different forum came back on his tenth anniversary with a photo of the children he had since diagnosis.

This is especially true if it’s on the smaller size . There are specialist centres and interestingly enough they actually have subtle differences with their surgical criteria but they do different surgeries like Hipec . They are centres of excellence. I will have a look and see if I bookmark any threads on the subject .

  • Thanks Court

i found the info about HIPEC yesterday.  Sounds like a biggie!  It’s so scary but I want to get my head in positive mode before i get on the rollercoaster again.

thanks for getting back to me.

  • Of course you do . My mum used to say she needed time to find her focus . But they also may have a straightforward surgical solution for you .
