Hi my first post, I have stage4 rectum cancer with metals is to liver, lungs and lymph nodes, I started chemo 5-fu all going well I hoped then I was diagnosed with a blood clot in my port, chemo was stopped I have now missed 2 treatments, I take an injection each day of a blood thinner and went back for an ultrasound, the clot is still there and still as big, I am now terrified chemo may not start until blood clot goes, I only had 2 sessions, I am terrified what’s happening to the cancer now I have no treatment? Who else has this kind of experience, what questions should I be asking my oncologist! I have the pain back in my rectum, I cannot sleep, is this going to shorten even further any recovery?
I didn't have this situation but I did have my planned treatment shortened significantly.
My oncologist told me that you get the greatest benefit from the first few treatments. You had 2 treatments so that's great. He also told me that delays were not significant to overall benefit.
They will likely do something to restart your treatment if the clot doesn't dissolve. I'm not sure what, but trust your treatment team.
