Hi I'm 67 and have Iron deficiency anaemia. This showed on routine tests when I'd seen my GP about something totally unrelated.

I've seen a consultant and I'm having an upper endoscopy and colonoscopy in 2 weeks.

I'm a bit shell shocked as I went to the GP with something else and have no symptoms and obviously I'm very worried about the outcome,

I know what happens regarding the endoscopy as my husband has had them previously.

I wonder if anyone else had iron deficiency anaemia and ended up on this pathway

How prevalent is IDA with colon cancer?

Thanks

  • I don't know how frequent it is but it does happen. Often colon cancer has no symptoms. But there are many other explanations so don't focus too much on this 1 possibility.

You are getting very good care and your doctors are being careful to ensure nothing is missed. Trust the process.

  • Thank you

I suppose it was made worse by the fact the locum GP I  saw for the results only mentioned cancer
