Hi,
Met my colorectal surgeon today at st.james found out the extent of my disease for the first time too. We thought it was sigmoid 4cm and 3 liver mets even after 6 cycles not understanding why leeds were involved on the colon side as well as liver. Turns out it's a lot more than we've been led to believe. I'm going to have to have bad section of bowel removed, an ovary, a blood vessel to my leg, ureter and potentially my bladder too. This is all separate to the liver treatment which we no nothing of either yet other than they need another scan first but it's holding everything up in the meatime. Has anyone else had any experience with this extent of surgery and any tips and advice in general please? Thanks
I had a total pelvic exenteration. They removed my rectum, part of my colon, my bladder, and most of my vagina. I'd already had a complete hysterectomy so ovaries etc were gone. You can read my story in my profile.
In general a long complex surgery is more difficult to recover from than a simpler one. But I'm living proof that it can be done. Put one foot in front of the other, keep on keeping on and you get there. It might be slow but it will happen... believe me.
I'm sorry this is happening to you. This sounds like a tough situation.
