Hi
i was diagnosed with rectal cancer in mid December. I have had colitis for many years…which had been well controlled recently with no issues and no medication. Fast forward to routine colonoscopy and discovery of a small rectal cancer. Fast forward again through ct scans and mri - no spread evident. Tumour removed and was more aggressive than expected…recommendation of ileostomy in the next couple of weeks. Deep breaths ive have learnt a lot in the last couple of weeks…. These forums are such an essential part of the learning process.
Any tips on how I get through next couple of weeks as I prepare for ileostomy …and beyond! Any help, support and guidance appreciated xx
Hi Galligirl Lots of support for the ileostomy on the board below

Your stoma nurses will also be a great support and make sure you’re completely at ease with dealing with it. I know a couple of people who’ve had stomas due to crohns and they’ve both appreciated the relief it’s given them from their symptoms.
Take care and feel free to ask any questions

That's alot to take in over just 4 months! Be gentle with yourself.
The ileostomy is not the horror you might be thinking it is. My surgery resulted in 2 stomas, a colostomy and a urostomy and I can tell you they are much easier to live with than I ever expected. Come on over to the stoma board that Karen linked.
