Hi. I had my operation one week ago and all went well, but i am now expiriencing pain on the right side of my torso - It feels like it could be a muscle issue but was wondering if anyone else suffered from this after the op?

  • I had an extended version of this surgery exactly a week ago too. Hope your recovery is going well? I still have pain in various places and I think this is probably very normal. Also I don’t know about you but I’m still needing to sleep on my back and can’t quite fully stand very upright yet. So I would say muscular pain is definitely a possibility. The body has been through a lot! But if you have concerns maybe talk to one of the nurses just to put your mind at ease. My nurse also said things won’t feel normal for a while in the abdominal area! Hope that helps a bit! X

  • Thanks Ki21. I am sure it is a muscle issue so will give it a day or two just too see if it settles down. Glad your recovery is going well. I must say I had much less post op pain than I was expecting but I guess the drugs helped. Sleeping is still an issue as I have always slept face down and cant get used to sleeping on my back.

  • Hi;

    how are you finding the pain now? I’m still waking up feeling very achy around my back but during the day I don’t have any pain from the incisions are anything. Just checking in to see how you are getting on x

  • Im doing good thanks Ki21. The pain in my torso is getting better by the day and I am well on the way to recovery. Just have to wait for the biopsy results now, so fingers crossed. Glad you are pain free and I guess the itching comes from sleeping on your back. Im sure it will ease off soon.All the best.

  • Glad to hear it is easing up - sounds like you recovered really fast. I now know that i definitely need chemo so will start in a few weeks I think. Hoping you get good news and that there is no further treatment for you x

  • Hi both, it sounds like you are doing really well. I had a right hemicolectomy 8 weeks ago and made a good recovery, but even now I get some pain on the right side by the main incision scar if I put too much strain on the abdominal muscles. The sleeping thing is a nightmare isn't it, I still don't sleep on my stomach, just doesn't feel right! I soon graduated to side sleeping with pillows to support. Best wishes x
