Incredibly dry skin!

Morning all,

I’ve had 1 chemo treatment out of 4 needed but have found that my face is incredibly dry/red and sore. My skin routine consists of using a simple face wipe followed by simple moisturiser! Has anyone experienced this and can recommend what to do to rehydrate my skin? I have got some hydrochloride moisture bomb face masks but not sure if I’m allowed to use them?
Any help would be gratefully received

  • Hi Karen

I’m on Capecitabine tablets. Was supposed to have my 2nd chemo Thursday just gone but my liver functions are high so didn’t go ahead- I was wondering whether that could have something to do with my skin too?
    Thanks for replying

  •   My nurses always recommended Aveeno with Shea butter for body use? Perhaps you could ask at your local pharmacy and see if an aqueous cream would be suitable? x

  • Hi

I recently heard a dermatologist explain a lot of face wipes have a lot of chemicals in them . I am Not sure about the simple range but on treatment my mum was allowed to use Aveeno too , infact the treatment she was on the hospital gave her a tube home with her .

The other product she could tolerate was a company called Alturist . It is dermatologist who made it and is very kind to the skin . It has a face wash and moisturiser and great body product too . The other good aspect is they have a sunscreen range and again my mum could tolerate it . He has kept the prices low to be inclusive .

It’s available on Amazon . No personal interest  in the company . It was just great to get products she could use .

    take care ,

  • Aw thank you so much Court. It’s so hard to know what to use that isn’t fragranced/contains alcohol etc but helps with dryness and protects against the sun. I’m hopefully having next chemo Thursday so will ask their advice too but good to know I can get something prior and see if it works.
    many thanks

  • Hi Charlotte

I've used Aveeno as an all over body cream and it's provided by the hospital.

When I first had Panitumumab I suffered with terrible skin on my face and resorted to vaseline overnight- very messy but did help !

Now my skin is just really dry so I use whatever good quality face cream I can afford.

I would agree with Court the Alturist range is excellent especially the sun screen.

Personally I would avoid wipes on my face.

Hope you can find a product to suit you soon.

  • Thank you Caroline

I have now stopped using the face wipes and just washing with water/dove soap which seems to already be helping. I’ve started using a recommended face cream which is also working better so hopefully my dry/red skin will soon feel better.
    many thanks for your tips

  • Hi Char Cad I am reading these replies with interest re the face wipes. My normally dry-ish skin has been very dry since I changed from gentle soap and water last year to using them, even though I chose unscented ones and found my always good No7 moisturiser no longer works. I need to get on top of this asap as I’m about to start Capecitabine ChemoRadiotherapy in a couple of weeks so I’m definitely going to stop using the wipes from this morning! Thank you Court for the info

  • I’ve definitely found my skin has changed a lot since chemo. I did have dry skin before but always found the unscented simple face wipes and my good quality Clinique moisturiser did the trick. I’m now using dove soap/water followed by ceraVe am and pm moisturisers which are doing wonders so far. Good luck with chemo in the next few weeks

    Thank you Charlotte x
