Colonoscopy wait

Hi,

This is my first post on here and it’s been giving me some comfort to read all of your posts! However, I just wanted to ask how long everyone waited from the time of their initial Drs appointment to the time they had their colonoscopy carried out? My Husband has been having symptoms of blood in his stool intermittently and has been fast tracked- the wait is causing us so much anxiety, I think this is heightened by the fact his sister is also being treated for bowel cancer!

  • Hey there.

For me I had my first examination with the doctor and he gave me a FIT test to do.  I should’ve done it the next day but left it till the following week.  When i everything did it and popped it bavk to the doctor I got my result within a week. The blood was high so I was put on the 2 week wait for a colonoscopy .  I know they gave me the first available appointment which was a little over the 2 weeks.  Probably more nearer to 4 weeks.

I had the same symptoms for over a year.  It would scare me then everything was ok for a while then it would come back.  Eventually the toilet bowel was full of blood and I couldn’t assume it was nothing.

I hope your husband gets his appointment quickly.

  • I was referred to the colorectal  dept after a ct scan showed an abnormality. I had to wait a while and then I recieved a call saying they want to a colonoscopy and that someone would be in touch.

I recieved the next call booking me in within the hour and 5 days later I was having it done. So it can happen very quickly once they know what they want to do.

  • Thank you so much for replying! It’s scary not knowing what to expect! He did his FIT test and returned it the day after his GP appointment- it came back at 13- so mildly positive. He has been waiting for 10 days so far for the appointment to come through! Just feels like the longest 10 days!!! He had blood in his stool a year ago and it went away… then twice over the last 3 weeks, but change in bowel habit and stomach pain on and off also!

  • Hi, sorry you are waiting that's agonising.  I would chase it up. I saw doctor around Nov 25th and had an initial phone call with colorectal dept 2nd Dec, colonoscopy 14th December.

Incredibly my FIT came back as greater than 1700 but I couldn't see any blood! The numbers can get v high.

Good luck moving this on. Hope your husband's sister is doing ok too xx
