As I was starting my fifth year of cancer follow-up checks, I noticed a small lump on the side of my naval just before Christmas. At first, I thought I might have been over-doing it at the gym, but I mentioned it to my GP, who booked me in for an ultra-sound scan. The results came back yesterday and it was not good news. My initial diagnosis had been stage 3 colorectal cancer and I had an anterior section, which went very well. Ten months later, I had a stoma reversal, which also went well.
I had always known that there was a chance that it might return some day, but it was still a bit of a shock. On the bright side, I have been going to the gym and exercise classes four times per week, plus walking five miles per day, so I feel as if I am physically in a good place to deal with what ever treatment comes next. What ever happens, I feel very privileged to have had such a fantastic team of people who have had my back.
So, on to my next step ---.
Hello Lucky1,
so sorry to here that it’s back!! And yes it must have been a shock. Good that you have keep yourself fit, and I’m a firm believer that walking and exercising helps so much with your mental wellbeing. Stay strong and keep up that positivity. Wishing you all the best x
Hi Lucky1, how is it going? What treatment are you having? I hope it's going well for you.
Hi Aquamarine, My prognosis was not great. They say my cancer is not curable, but they will try to manage it with Chemotherapy. I am now on to my second round of 6 cycles and it has been going very well, thanks. I have had no adverse effects from the treatment, so far, but I realise it is early days. I had my second infusion on Thursday, which went so well, that I did a 5 mile walk straight after. I then take five chemo tablets, at home, twice a day, for 9 days. After this mornings chemo tablets I went to my regular gym/cardio class which went very well. My instructor told me that a couple of people in the class, who I'd told about my treatment, had asked if I was really ill, as I was so energetic.
I'm really sorry to heR that but the exercise you are doing must have a huge benefit in helping to manage your treatment, that's amazing you can do so much! I wish you all the best with the rest of your treatment.
