Did FIT test on 30th. Any idea how long it takes to receive results? I had diarrhea though, will they still be able to do test as it was runny?

Also if blood is found what else could it be apart from cancer? Thanks

  • Hi  Goid to read that you’ve done your FIT test. Mine was fine through my GP and the results were back within 48 hours so keep an eye on your NHS/GP app if you have one?

If there was enough to check on the stick then the consistency does not matter.

Other causes of blood in the poo can be from piles, polyps, ibs, colitis, crohns, diverticulitis and the cause would be checked via a colonoscopy

  • Thanks Karen.

I was referred for 2ww a week ago. Not heard anything back yet. Does this mean I will get a colonoscopy within 2 weeks of will it just be a consultation? Thanks

  • Hi  I was initially referred to the hospital for a consultation where I had a sigmoidoscopy which is an internal check but doesn’t go as far round as a colonoscopy which checks all of the bowel? I then had the colonoscopy but I can’t remember the exact timeline as it was back in 2016?
Might be worth chasing your GP?

  • I was sent the regular 2 yearly screening FIT test. What happens next may be different when your GP orders the test.

In the accompanying letter the Bowel Screening Service promised results within 2 weeks, which I think was what happened (I can't now remember the exact date I did the test).

The letter does make clear that the majority of positive test results are found, on investigation, not to be cancer.

Once they had looked at the test result I got a letter saying that my result would require further investigation and they had scheduled a colonoscopy for 2 weeks later. If that time or place was not possible then they would look for alternatives (though this could then take longer).

I was also asked to come a briefing meeting a week from the letter and a week before the colonoscopy to discuss what I needed to do to prepare for the investigation and to give me the meds I would need to use to clear my bowels. They also gave advice on starting on a low-residue diet and answered any questions I might have.
