Hi. Close family member has just been diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer that has gone to lymph node and I did the unforgivable Dr Google which basically gives no hope.

Can anyone give me their honest journeys of what we as a family need to expect from now on in this journey? I've read the forum for a few hours and judging by people's experiences it depends on how responds to radio and chemo? Mentally I'm not dealing with it very well but trying my best.

I'd like to hear everyones journey. if you are willing to help and share your experiences.

Thank you all.

  • Hello Drago,

If you click on a contributor's name on these pages you might find a summary of their experiences, from the beginning. Take note that many of us are still here to tell the tale. I have just had a look on Google - what a load of depressing, sensational stuff that is from around the world. You will find Macmillan, NHS and Cancer Research UK more relevant to UK patients: they tend to get to the point without waffle or anything to sell.

  • Hi

Do you know if the lymph nodes are located near the primary or a distance to the bowel tumour ?

Where they are located matters .
Is it a rectal tumour ?

How they responds definitely is a big plus but location also matters .

My mum had a significant spread a diagnosis but stayed with us for a further 15 years . The first year was the worst but we learnt to treat it as a chronic condition and got better at compartmentalising scans and procedures and pushed on with living a good life despite a difficult diagnosis.

Please do come back with the lymph node location as my mum had some involvement over the years .

    Take care ,

  • The other thing that can happen is a confusion around t 4 and stage 4 ! Just always like to clarify .

  • Hi mate, thanks for the response. It is stage 4 but the spread is localised to the cancer in the polyps. That's as much as I know.

Radiotherapy followed by introvenus chemo and then surgery to remove the remainder.

It's heartbreaking. Take care of yourself.

  • That’s a good plan and sounds as though they can still have a curative treatment plan if they respond well to treatment .

The good thing about radiotherapy a lot of people have actually been down staged if the cancer shrinks enough .

Lots of support on here to get you all through the treatment lent phase .
