Hello everyone,
I’ve just started my dream job! I have worked really hard for it. Just before i started the role, I passed a very large stool. I wiped and it was very bloody and slimey. I’ve had streaks of blood in my poo for years. The GP always said it was internal piles and was given senakot.
I went to GP, showed them a photo of the tissue. I was rushed very quickly to meet a colonrectal doctor. He examined me and said I think it’s piles but I will send you for a colonoscopy.
Two colonoscopies later, I’ve had two polyps removed. One about 2cm large thin stalk, and a small flat one. They said it didn’t look cancerous and we will send it off to get tested.
didnt hear anything for about a month, just had a letter through to say I have a hospital appointment at general surgery. I didn’t know what it was about so I spoke to someone.
they’ve said it’s to discuss the results which have been to the MDT for discussion and have said they want to speak to me.
so now I am thinking worse case scenario! I’ve started my new job and I may potentially have a health issue! What did you do whilst waiting for results? Am I crazy that I’m thinking worst case. Am I stupid for thinking about my job and not my health.
I have good and bad days, I’m very scared
Hi Slinkyginx
My story quite similar. Had 3 polyps removed at colonoscopy, said on report probable benign and didn’t seem concerned. 3 weeks later got a phone call to say there had been cancer found in one. He said he called as he didn’t want letters to come through and me not knowing what was going on. Mine was 12mm and as cancer was near edge of polyp they offered me watch and wait or surgery. I had surgery in January this year to remove part of bowel and surrounding lymph nodes. They were fortunately all clear and was diagnosed stage 1. On 3 years surveillance. Surgeon said I’d been caught at very early stage. It was all very frightening at time of the unknown.
Hi sorry to hear you're having a worrying time.
I would think that there is something going on there otherwise you would have had a letter saying No evidence of disease.
It's possible to get your reports in advance of the appointment if you want.
You ll have to contact your consultants secretary and ask who you need to apply to for that.
I have done this for my scans and biopsy reports
Hope this may be of some help to you
Hi Slinky
I had a colonoscopy 2017 after blood found in poo, consultant told me he had found a mass in my colon.... told me there and then that it was cancer... biopsy confirmed it.... anterior resection and off work for 9 weeks...all clear after 5 years of monitoring.
Stay away from Google... only causes more worry...stay fit and eat well.... watch loads of telly...box sets... documentaries etc...swim...play sports.
A responsible employer will understand the situation.
Take care and best of luck
Peter
Thank you for replying. Can I ask what the recovery is like for this?
Many thanks
Thank you Peter, I’m allowing myself 5 minutes a day to worry, putting my emotions in check. I’m fortunate to have family supporting me. Then I’m doing stuff to try and distract myself. Thursday can’t come quick enough but at the same time I don’t want to know!
My recovery was absolutely fine. 4 nights in hospital. I had all tubes (catheter, morphine, cannula) removed morning after. I just got up and pushed myself to walk to toilet and be on my feet asap. I had laparoscopic surgery.
I found coming on to MacMillan very helpful and yes stay off google. Sorry to hear you going through this.
Take care xx
I went to hospital today. They have explained that they found a neuroendocrine tumour when testing the polyp. They said it’s not cancer yet. They are confident it has been removed but they want me to do a CT Scan and blood test. I’ve been told it’s very rare!
Good luck, hope that the good news continues
Peter
Hi Slinkyjinx It’s good that it’s been removed and hopefully the CT scan will confirm that. Will you have regular check ups going forward? x
