I am expecting surgery & possible chemo/radiotherapy.
The location is 15 cm from anal verge.
Does anyone have similar circumstances, if so what stage of cancer can I expect & type of operation?
Many thanks
Hi Geddy64 and a warm welcome to the board. My tumour was slightly lower than yours - approx 9-10cm from the anal verge - so classed as a rectal tumour. I had chemoradiotherapy before my op to shrink the tumour as much as possible to allow the surgeon to remove it with a clear surrounding area and rejoin the bowel. Yours is in the sigmoid part of the colon so you may go straight to surgery or you may have chemoradiotherapy first.
The staging is done officially after surgery from the histology report but they can usually have a rough idea beforehand depending on whether you have suspected spread to lymph nodes and how far into the bowel wall the tumour has grown?
Ive attached links to a couple of booklets which you may find helpful but please post if you’ve anything else you’d like to know

You’re very welcome. Yes I’m nearly 8 years ‘no evidence of disease’ now. If you click on my name then you can see my treatment timeline - had a few hiccups post op but most people are a lot less eventful! x
