Delay chemo due to low platelets

I’m currently having round 3 of folfox and my oncologist said he might have to delay round 4 if my blood test at that time show my platelets are too low. He explained it would be delayed by one week but ideally they don’t like to delay as chemo has it’s best effect at regular intervals

is this normal? I asked if there is anything I can do diet / exercise to get my platelets up but he said no.

Hi 100KT

It is entirely normal . It happened to my mum . I noticed her platelets going down so was preparing her that they may push it back a week as we drove over for the results . Out the blue they popped back up that week .

But it comes up her a lot . There is the optimum then there is the reality of treatment . My mum had a few weeks over the years where treatment was pushed back . They just waited a week and she went back on when the situation altered .

Hi 100,

Totally normal. I had 8 cycles. After 3 cycles my platelets would drop for 2 consecutive weeks and then all of a sudden shoot up again.

I did ask but was told no, just wait and see.

Just gives you a bit of insight to the normal ranges . Just realised how low my mums actually were .
