Hi everyone
First of all want to start of by saying this forum is priceless. Thanks to everyone for being so open and sharing their stories.
I'm 36 with have psoriatic arthritis.
8 weeks ago my bowel habbits changed after a course of antibiotics. Explosive and uncontrollable diarrhoea with no feeling of emptiness. Feel full and bloated, Very tired, belly noises, cramps and weight lost all followed and continues. 3 over the phone conversations and a trip to A&E within that time frame.
I'm extremely aware of my body and its normal habbits. This is abnormal.
Stool sample for C.diff - Negative
Blood samples show inflammation markers at 32 - I'm normally 9. Iron levels good but anaemic.
FIT was Negative - i only had mucous to test. Is blood still detected in that? - never given a number just told its negative and no blood
Calprotectin test came back at 213.
I'm now going private due to a colonoscopy referral in northern ireland NHS coming back with a 20 week waiting time.
Consultation is on Friday 3rd May.
I know I'm not doing myself any good by reading into things but I can't help it.
Can I ask people to share if they had a high calprotectin test and no blood in stooland still had a diagnosis?
My gp is more inclined to say its crohn's at this stage. What where other people being told prior to their diagnosis?
Kindly
K XX
Hi Oakesey88
I can’t tell you many times I have replied to people about Bowel
issues over the years and thankfully most are due to other reasons. I think roughly speaking only one in ten of people who have a positive bowel screen have cancer so the other nine have bleeding due to other reasons .
However it is very important to get checked if you feel you have other symptoms that are affecting your digestive tract. I always use probiotics after antibiotics. But you are absolutely doing the right thing as other conditions need intervention and if it were a cancer , bowel cancer caught early has very good outcomes hence the screening program .
Getting fully investigated quickly is very wise and well done you for advocating for yourself .
As we are not medically trained I am afraid we can’t say what your own situation is attributable to but wish you all the very best with your upcoming investigations .
Take care ,
