Where we are now

At the end of November my husband was diagnosed with colon cancer. As you can imagine we were devastated to hear this news. Following a scan it showed up that the cancer had spread to three spots on abdomen wall. His original operation was cancelled and a new hospital and consultant were in place. His operation took place with the cancer being taken out of his colon and it has been rejoined. The cancer on the abdomen wall was also removed and a hot chemo wash applied to the area. He is currently in a high dependency area at the moment with a further stay of up to two weeks on a ward. This procedure is pioneering in Wales at the moment, there are two consultants who were trained in Basingstoke to bring this back to UHW . I am extremely grateful that this option was there for my husband.  It’s going to be a tough couple of months and I’m interested to hear from anyone else who may have had this treatment.

  • Hi

Thank you for your update .
It is wonderful to hear that he made it to surgery but also to see the team developing this service to other areas . This is a great step forward .

Having been here for too long Grinning, my understanding has always been that Hipec surgery or equivalent is a big hit . But others have come through it well and keeping expectations on recovery reasonable helps .

My mum had 73% of her liver taken away and probably would have had a similar recovery time . But each week you did see progress as long as you were patient but around the six months mark you could tell recovery was complete .

I wondered about linking in with

     HIPEC SURGERY?

I have put this link up and let you see their input .

    Take care ,

  • Hi, I’m nearly 6 months post op for Cytoreductive surgery with HIPEC. I also had the same surgeons at UHW, they’re amazing. I am more than happy for you to connect with me and would be pleased to share my recovery experience with you and your husband.

I was diagnosed in October 22, I had 8 rounds of chemo, a liver resection and appendix removed in June 23. Then I had Cytoreductive and HIPEC in August 23. September I got the news I’m in complete remission. I had my 3 month scan results in December and still all clear

  • What a great outcome! Fingers crossed my husband has the same. I’m sure he will have many questions for you so if you wouldn’t mind can I contact you again when he’s home?

  • Of course, and sending positive vibes to you both!
