Hi all,
My beautiful mum had a colonoscopy last week and they found a sizeable tumour which they told her looked like cancer. She has had cancer twice before once when she was 16 and once when she was 40. She’s now in her late 50s and it all just feels so unfair. Following the colonoscopy she has a CT scan - I think to check if it has spread ect.
They were able to tell her immediately after the colonoscopy what they had found but I’m just wondering how long following the CT scan she will have to wait?
She is dizzy, tired and has lost a lot of weight. She’s mentioned to me that she’s also passed some blood. She’s also got pain in her groin and upper arm so I’m just so worried that it’s spread to other areas.
sending love to you all. I feel like my heart has been ripped out and I’ll never have joy again so I hope it gets better ️
Hi Robinred
welcome to the forum . I am Sorry to read about your mum . She has been through so much already .
My mum’s additional scans are around the two week period . But it can vary from trust to trust .
My mum actually had a spread at diagnosis and still here 14 years later as bowel cancer even when it’s spread can still have a lot of different treatment options .
A lot of people come here and think various symptoms are signs of spread but often they are due to other reasons . Although possibly still related to a tumour but not necessarily a spread . It’s tough waiting for the information being pulled together .
We are most definitely here to support you through this part as everyone here can relate to this .
Bowel cancer has many good treatment plans and we can give you lots of information when she gets through the staging .
Take care ,

Hi Court,
THank you so for your lovely reply. It has given me hope. I am going with my granny to take her to her scan today and she is in high spirits so I’m hoping and praying that the news comes quickly and we can get cracking with her treatment.
Hearing that your mum is still here 14 years later has really helped me so much. 2 weeks will feel like 2 years but once we know we will be able to make a plan.
Thank you again ️

Hi Robinred and a warm welcome from me too. Sounds like your mum is a very strong lady and will be able to draw on that strength to get her through the next few months. Bowel cancer is notoriously slow growing and also very treatable. The size of the tumour is not an indicator of severity - the CT scan will check to see if there is any spread to other organs or whether the tumour is contained in the bowel. Once the team has all the information then they will meet and discuss a treatment plan for her.
Once you have a plan in place then things will honestly feel a bit better. Stay away from google - you can ask anything you like on here and, if you click on peoples names, then their profile page may show their treatment to date.
I was diagnosed in 2016 and I’ve just had lunch with 2 ladies that were also diagnosed at the same time - we’re all still ‘no evidence of disease’ and friends for life.
We’re all at different stages of treatment and recovery on here and happy to help and support you and your mum through the next few months
Take care
