Nausea and tiredness after chemotherapy

After my first 3 week cycle of chemotherapy towards the end of the week I picked up a bit and in the third week I was well enough to go out for the day and even visit a restaurant. I am on my second cycle now, finished the tablets Monday and am sick all day and very weak. It’s a bit miserable because I really hoped to be fit enough and hungry enough to cook and enjoy Christmas dinner before my next Oxaliplatin I’ve on 27th.

do the side effects of Chemotherapy accumulate and get worse with each cycle? I have had 2 of 4

  • Hi  Yes they do tend to get a bit worse with each session but that’s not to say that you won’t pick up again on the week off’. If your antisickness meds don’t seem to be working then please give your 24 hour chemo helpline a ring - they tend to start you on a bog standard antisickness med but sometimes some of the more expensive ones such as emend can make a big difference?

Hope you start to feel a bit better soon

    Take care

  • Thank you Karen,

I only took the anti emetic for the prescribed 5 days following iV. To be fair, last time that’s all I needed. This time I’m feeling sick on my week off so I will contact the pharmacist
