Has anyone made a decision not to have the full amount of chemo cycles that were originally planned? I have had radiotherapy with capecitabine for 5 weeks then a break of 4 weeks and started Capox infusions with tablets for two weeks. I have neuropathy in both feet which seems to be worsening. The oncologist said it may be that I don't have the 6th cycle which would be just before Christmas. I'm just wondering if I decided not to have the last one would it greatly affect the effectiveness of the overall treatment plan? They have already reduced the dose of the infusion due to the issues.
Hi Doris58 Your oncologist will know what’s best for you but I think they always err on the top side. I was originally due to have 9 but my oncologist told me that ‘the fatigue would wipe me out before then’ almost saying that she didn’t expect me to do 9 (this was before recent trials proved that less were just as effective)
I was a bit annoyed to be stopped after 8 but my feet were tingly and the nurse said they looked red so that was that. The neuropathy got worse after finishing and I still feel it now so dont risk it getting any worse. The actual tumour will be removed during surgery and the chemo is just a blast to zap any cells that might be lurking.
Hope your next step goes well and keep those feet well moisturised
Take care

Doris58 It was called the Scot trial and found that 3 months chemo was just as effective as 6 but with far fewer side effects
Another trial called the Rapido trial found it beneficial to give chemo before surgery rather than after - it just goes to show how treatment is improving and progressing all the time x
