My husband was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer last year it has been a long year and even though right at the beginning we were told surgery wasn't possible we finally got the news weve been longing to here a couple of months ago surgery is now possible so my husband had pets scans cts n mris also lung tests n a sonar test on his heart everythin came bk fine was told on 31st of october by his oncologist that it'll be the surgeon gettin in touch nxt n to let her no once hes had the bowel resection. Then he gets a phone call nearly a week later to say they had a meeting n not sure if they can operate here in Derby as the tumour is too close 2 his lymph nodes so there gettin a 2nd opinion from a doctor in Leicester but told she might want another ct scan he literally had 1 Sept 9th n only got the results from that a few wks bk anyway hes havin the scan 2moro but got a letter today with an appointment to see his oncologist on the 19th of December so weve messaged the nurse n asked wat the appointments for cuz were thinkin surely it aint gonna b ct scan results surely he wud have had his op by then but 2 b told itll b 4 the ct scan results n hopefully we will also find out about surgery! Were left feelin so deflated i feel so helpless 4 my husband all we do is wait this is his life there playin with n im scared that after 3 months he will end up havin 2 go bk on2 treatment n the surgery will go out of the window again! I dont think we will be able to cope to be so close to surgery but not close enough! This man is my husband he is a father 2 our 3 young children n a son! has anyone else experienced this?

  • I am so sorry to hear about your husband. My mum has bowel cancer and initially they were just going to do surgery and that would be it but when they operated the tumor was stuck to lymph nodes and her nerves so they could not remove it so it is no longer curable. She started her chemotherapy a month ago, she was in a lot of pain and lost a lot of weight she is 58. The good news is that the pain is now under control and she is eating better. I haven't experienced exactly what you are going through but I know how scary it is and going from being told it was curable to incurable was devastating at the time. We try and not look too far ahead which for you with 3 small children must be so difficult. I hope you are receiving lots of support from everyone around you, we have needed so many people, some people are angels and totally get it and others don't get it and don't cope. Sending you a big hug and I hope things improve for you and your family Sparkling heart

  • Hi

I am Wondering if your husbands case has been sent to a centre of excellence. This can really slow things down as they hold their own MDT meeting . It is better to go to these centre if possible if it’s more complex surgery as they are experienced in more extensive surgery and they whole aftercare department is equipped to handle that too .

This happened to my mum . It was a longer delay but suddenly she was called through .

However I will say my mum was back on chemo for a further year and it was two years into the process when the bigger solution arrived .

I know this is awful . We have endured a few ourselves but hang on in there .
We are here to support you both .

    Take care ,

  • Thanku so much 4 ur reply it is tough its hard not being able 2 plan 2 far ahead especially wen we have children they no dads poorly but sometimes forget bless them sometimes maybe thats a gud thing We thought if he had surgery we might actually be able to plan normal stuff and take the kids away next year now it feels unlikely. I hope ur ok? Cancer has such a big effect on everyone involved especially the carers. My husband has actually started gettin pain in 1 of his legs n i keep sayin is it a trapped nerve? Wondering if its linked now? Sending healing to ur mum Heart️

I no they have meetings but im not sure if its MDT i just feel like all we do is wait its really deflating we thought he'd be having the op b4 xmas and im worried that all this waiting and not being on any treatment is going to set us back i really hate chemo my husband gets ever so down all he wants is to get back to work sometimes i feel he doesnt see how serious his illness is i guess sometimes thats a good thing as he tries to keep me positive. Hope u n ur mum r ok  Heart
