My partner was diagnosed early September with rectal cancer, she is back in hospital 4 weeks after being discharged and now has an infection, she's had tests and scans, the specialist has come to us this morning to tell us the worst news possible.

Her tumor has perforated and because of the agresivness of the cancer there is nothing that can be done to cure what she has.

We have been told to prepare for the worst but hope for the best, the infection is being treated and hopefully chemo will still be started, the team here have been excellent trying to keep my partner comfortable.

From here we have a lot to process but everything has become our worst nightmare.

  • So sorry to hear what you are both coping with. As someone who has cancer my advice to you would be to show your support & optimism. The diagnosis is a lot to take in and certainly takes time. There is a lot of help in the community the staff are brilliant and talking to others will give you hope. I’m sure a positive outlook aids recovery so anything you can do & say to encourage your wife will help tremendously. Also accept help if people offer as there is a lot of kindness out there. Live from day to day & enjoy your time together.

    All the very best
