Hi all
its been a while since I posted. I have stage 4 bowel cancer, had a right hemi colectomy. Now half way through first round of chemo. Side effects thankfully minimal, but chemo has been delayed for a second time due to low neutrophil count. I am told this is not unusual, and have 3 days worth of nivestim to try and improve things.
I am concerned about the overall delay in treatment, as I have a tumour on my liver that will in due course be removed if things pan out as they should. I suppose what I really want to know is what happens if the nivestim doesn’t improve things? If anyone has experience I would be grateful for any info or knowledge around next steps, although keeping everything crossed nevastim does the trick.
otherwise currently feeling pretty good which is a bonus, although not counting any chickens just yet!
I’m not good at the waiting game but trying to keep calm and carry on.
It would be good to here from anyone who has been through anything similar.
Thank you.
Hi! I had 12 rounds of FOLFIRI chemo, finished last March and I also had to delay by 1 week twice due to low neutrophil counts. I wasn't prescribed nevastim as my counts were bordeline and came back up each time. Nevastim stimulates neutrophil production from the bone marrow so there's no reason your count should bounce back up pretty quickly.
Take care,
Cecile
