Good afternoon everyone.
I went for a PET CT scan yesterday which I hadn't factored into the investigative process but the nurse said it's the scan she would.want in my.situation as it is the gold star of scans! I should get my results next week at yet another hospital.
My consultant requested it to see whether my bowel tumor/skin cancer in my rectum has infected any nearby lymph nodes. I've previously been told after MRI and CT scans that there has been no spread but that a PET scan will show up much clearer any infected nodes.
My tumor is growing on the outside of my bowel and pressing up against my prostate and causes me a lot of pain and discomfort.
Sorry if I am repeating myself. I have a wonderful support network and to be honest at times I still can't believe it's happening or indeed keep up with the speed of it.
My heart goes out to all of us going through our own journeys
I'm so nervous for the results not least in case it highlights anything else going on inside my body!!
Trying to keep focused and take one day at a time.

Hi - I agree with your nurse. I had a PET scan to determine the size of two lung nodules back in 2020 (following on a year later after bowel cancer.)
It was certainly a very accurate scan back then.
Wishing you very well

Hi Paddybud
My mum always had a Pet scan prior to surgery . It can add another layer to the images and the surgeons do often have them up and refer to them in theatre. Or so I am lead to believe .
The mind always goes to the aspect of other things showing up but it can also be used to show them other information regarding the primary .
Take care ,

Hi PaddyBud
The PET scan is the best way to check the treatment needed is right for you.
I was down for a lobectomy when my thoracic surgeon said that he’d like to completely rule out a spread from the Bowel so booked a PET
They were treating my lung nodules as another primary but wanted to make absolutely sure before operating as my treatment would have been tailored to secondary cancer
I did have primary lung cancer and had surgery
Hope all goes well
Ann
Good morning court.
Thank you for replying.
I'm sure it will help them they've suggested an operation as something to potentially do after radio and chemo.
I've got to somehow keep things in perspective. Hoping that in these weeks between discovering what it is it behaves itself and stays where it is
Take care

Good morning Artsie.
Good to hear from you. How are you doing?
The nurse was lovely as everyone has been to be honest. Explaining how clear and precise the images are from a PET scan and what kinds of things it can highlight.
They also said they would be able to see clearer how much it is invading the prostate space.
Take care
