What next, after Chemoradiotherapy?

My oncologist has told me that there is a 30% chance of a complete response rate to treatment after chemoradiotherapy. My colorectal surgeon is less optimistic - saying that complete response rate is more like 10%

My surgeon has told me that I WILL be having a permanent stoma about 10 - 12 weeks after my treatment has finished - no option!

I'm just wondering what has happened after downstaging for other people. Is there another pathway? I'd like to think that other options have at least been considered.

Can anyone suggest what I should be asking for, if a complete response isn't achieved?

Thanks
