It's a great help knowing others are going through similar worries. I first had a resection for colon cancer 3 years ago, some adjunctive chemo and I was loving life with no signs until a blood test showed elevated CEA in March 23 and mets on lungs. 12 cycles of Folfiri ending today but CEA has jumped up again, awaiting scan results with inevitable scanxiety.
I have felt generally great throughout the treatment with minimal side effects, not looking forward to having Oxalaplatin again though, which might be on the cards. Consultant said there are some clinical trials which I'm definitely interested in.
I'm a nurse, working non clinically atm thanks to my amazingly supportive team. So incredibly sad to see the nurses in the Onc centre run off their feet like the rest of the NHS. They are brilliant and I am SO grateful for my care.
Hi SierraBravo , I'm in a similar situation: diagnosed in 2019 with no spread, had surgery + 12x FOLFOX. then lung mets in 2022, had 12 x FOLFIRI followed by radiotherapy (SABR), with intent to cure as the idea is for the radiotherapy to totally get rid of the 3 lung mets, finished in August, won't really know the outcome for a few months.
I think there might be other reasons for the CEA to jump up, the chemo can sometimes lower it independently of the tumour shrinkage so when you stop it climbs up again. In term of trials, I came across this drug in development, still early stages but it might be worth looking into it: https://www.targetedonc.com/view/targeting-oxmif-signals-promise-as-new-immuno-oncology-option-for-mcrc; https://www.oncoone.com/science-technology/#antioxmif.
Take care,
Cecile
