Hi, I had my first infusion today which went ok however they said not to take any paracetamol if I felt unwell afterwards as it would mask a fever. My temp is ok but I've had a headache that's getting worse and worse. Tried calling the ward as they said and the out of hours mobile, both just keep cutting me off. Any suggestions as to what I can take if not paracetamol, would ibuprofen be ok ?

  • Hello Doris58

If you can not get hold of the hospital then I would advise you to call NHS111 and get assessed tonight- explaining that you have had your first Capox and your headache is getting worse and worse.

I had chemotherapy last year and was told to contact the hospital with problems such as this and particularly as it is your first infusion I think you need to be checked and hopefully reassured.

  • Hi

Have you managed to get hold of anybody?

I have asked Tony if he got told anything but they didn't give him any information about paracetamol.

All he has been told is to take his temperature. Etc.

Hope you manage to sort it out.

    Take care lv kell xx

  • Thanks, I kept ringing and they did eventually answer! I was allowed a paracetamol which took the edge off as no temp. It's back this morning so I will call again

  • Remember you can also phone your Gp to get assessed quickly. They are good at assessing headaches.

Phone your team again . A quick check is always best .

Hope it eases for you .

  • Glad you got hold of them and the paracetamol helped. I would always ring the hospital first as they are doing your treatment, next would be GP if they are open or if not 111. Hope you are feeling better this am
