Hi Guys, so we are just over a year post surgery and nearly 6 months post chemo and my bowels haven’t fully recovered toilet wise, I like always seem to be constipated, I have to literally rely on lactulose each night to get me moving, I did have a gastric sleeve done in June of this year and yes I am on a very low dose of iron but my bowels haven’t really been the same since my rectal cancer surgery, my surgeon did say I’d have poor bowel function for like ever but when I spoke to my bariatric surgeon he seems to think my colorectal surgeon meant it would be diarrhoea id be suffering with for like ever, do any of you guys suffer with poor bowel function since your surgery, I can tell you something it’s really bloody draining I spend most my time straining on the loo that in turn causing me piles, I have my colonoscopy September 1st if my piles get any bigger he won’t be able to fit that tube up there..
Oh dear. You poor thing it’s horrible to be spending all your time in the toilet
How about diet?
There’s lots of help with movement it’s finding the right thing for you. My niece suffered for years then by chance found sugar free polos did the job and she’s a nurse so would have tried everything
If you keep a food diary and log your BMs you may find that will really help. I use dioctyl capsules. It’s very gentle as I am more prone to loose stools
Best wishes I hope things improve
Ann
