Hi,
I have introduced myself already on a different thread.
My husband got diagnosed last week with bowel cancer, the doctor said it was a large tumour and should be starting treatment hopefully this week.
Can I ask how long after the diagnosis did people get their appointment with the oncologist?
It is such a stressful time and we are really worried the delay can cause more harm.
Any advice would be appreciated
Thank you Kell
Hi Kell. I was diagnosed in 2016 and my timeline is below
22/7 colonoscopy
3/8 CT scan
8/8 MRI scan
9/8 Saw surgical team to discuss treatment plan
12/8 saw radiology consultant
16/8 saw oncologist
18/8 chemoradiotherapy pre-assessment
22/8 started Chemoradiotherapy
28/11 surgery
Have you been allocated a colorectal support nurse that you could ring for an update!
Take care
Karen x
Hi Kell,
I have found there are usually about 2 weeks between one specialist making the referral and getting the appointment. I've had my onco forgetting to actually make the referral he said he would do, delaying everything by 3 weeks, so now I just ring every department concerned until I get an answer and some action. I'm sure they're all sick of me but that's too bad

Thank you Karen,
Wow you have been through a lot, hope you are well now.
Yeah my husband has been given a colorectal nurse that we can turn to.
He was only diagnosed on Thursday but the way in which the doctor was talking it was urgent he got seen.
Maybe it was me panicking a little and not taking everything in??
I think we will be giving her a ring tomorrow just to put our minds at rest.
Thanks again and Take care
Kell xx
Hi Cecile,
It is a long time to wait isn't it when you have been given news like that?
My husband is getting stressed and he is normally quite calm.
I am all over the place as I like to plan things ahead and obviously at the minute we can only take one day at a time.
We will be ringing tomorrow I think just to try and see where we are.
Thanks again Kell
I’m not one of the current success stories, but there are plenty of people that are, so focus on that. There really is no point in looking at worst case scenarios until you have no choice. I’m undergoing treatment, so we’re not out of options by a long shot. Take care.
