Hi

i am new here. I was told I have bowel cancer 7 weeks ago. Although I have been having scans and a sigmoidoscopy I feel so frustrated to have not yet had a discussion.
The waiting for staging is causing me much anxiety and my imagination is going haywire .

  • Hi

Welcome to the forum . I have to say I can understand why you are frustrated. That seems excessive. Do you have a special nurse you can phone ?

They can sometimes get you the information you need . If not don’t hesitate in sending an email to the consultants secretary and explain you have been waiting some time but it would help considerably to know the staging and treatment plan .

The unknown is sometimes more difficult to process .

    Take care ,

  • Hi Admincool

I remember feeling the same I just seemed to be having tests and no one could say what treatment I was going to receive. I didn’t realise how the system worked then.
I hadn’t joined here, which would have really helped me but I was in denial.
I phoned my named nurse and asked for advice as I wanted to book a holiday. It was holiday season so it was reasonable.
She told me what I was going to have and gave me a link to look to up

I had no intention of going on holiday , but needed to be able to sleep and eat without a pit in my stomach making me feel sick

So when the appointment came through for my consultation diagnosis and treatment plan I was prepared

  • Hi Faloola

That’s great news that you’ve finished your first cycle. I’m no help sorry with diet however the thirst I can help with. I was crazy thirsty with my Ileostomy and drank gallons on water and isotonic drinks. I’ve found a recipe to make your own I’ll paste below   I haven’t made them yet

Maybe some calorific treats. My bro in law ate cream cakes and M&S trifle. Don’t know why before chemo he had all home made. Think M & S were easy eating treats and he could really eat lots of it x

  • When I was on capox.everything tasted like cardboard.so small portions of stronger tasting foods helped

All the best and keep hydrated in this hot weather

  • Hi

We used milkshakes with mum and sunk a bar of chocolate in them as well . It was calorific but stopped the weight loss . Alternatively Macdonald ‘s milk shake does the same .

She was able to sip it slowly which helped as she really did not feel like eating .

We made every spoonful count . If you can stomach the build up drinks Complan has a chicken soup which I think is around 300 calories but has all the necessary nutrients. I was satisfied if she took one .

If you are struggling away ask for a referral to a dietitian. It’s an important one to get help with .

Apparently the tongue has a rich blood supply so the chemo heads there .

    Are your lips resolving ?
