Hi Everyone,
Has anyone had any experience of waiting more than eight weeks for a Liver Resection whilst beind off Chemotherapy.
My Wife had her last MRI Scan 7 days ago so they could take a look at her small reoccurance in her Colon. This was with the possible intent of carrying out both Liver Resection and Ablation together with another Resection of her Colon.
Initially she was told that she would not be eligible for a Resection to her Liver as she had multiple Metastases to both halves. However she's responded well to her Chemotherapy and Targeted therap and this has placed her in the position of being operable. We don't want to miss this chance that she has been given. We are worried that due to her being off Chemotherapy for so long, the Cancer m be spreading.
I suppose I could be worrying unnecessarily and the Experts all know what they are doing.
Hi Gunfitter400
It’s a legitimate concern and one we had too . My mum had a two month wait . What I would say is be prepared to move quickly as unlike primary cancer removal any time my mum has had a specialist unit involved it has dragged on and on whilst she went through the local MDT then the specialist MDT , more scans then suddenly just when we thought it had ground to a halt she would get a phone call to say surgery is next week .
The way I processed it was to think they knew the surgical margins they had to play with . However saying that and it’s only my opinion I think eight weeks is a long time and it’s legitimate to ask some questions around timescales . It was also around two months wait for her lung resection but it was slow growing anyway .
Does she have a specialist nurse you could contact?
She has had a great response . Fantastic news on that front .
I hope you can get through to someone .
My mum also had a combined liver and colon resection at one point . She did well post op in terms of recovery .

Thanks Court,
my Wife gets a bit hung up on bothering any of her Medical Team, of which there are two, her Colon Team and her Liver Team. She has been Scanned to bits, 4 in total. Initially a CT followed by an MRI with contrast followed by a PET and then finally another MRI without contrast.
It seems that the treatment that she recieved gave the Metastases in her Liver a good hammering, down from multiple on both sides to two on her Liver somewhere, plus the reoccurance at her Colon Resection Site. However I'm not sure whether they took their eye of the ball a bit regarding her Colon reoccurance, which I asked about in various meetings with medical personnel. I also had to ask twice regarding her getting the final MRI Scan. We were told that this had to happen before anything else, (surgery).
Sorry to go on, we are just worried at the moment and she doesn't sleep much lately due to worry.
