Panicking

Ok. Now I am really panicking.  I know very well that one should wait for the "proper" diagnosis,  and that Dr. Google is a scaremongering ba%@rd... but I cannot help thinking over and over my symptoms and the conclusion that I will be found with advanced colon cancer... so what worries me is: had a 2 weeks constipation only relieved with cosmocol. Pain in the ascending colon. A positive FOB test. A little more tired, but that might be the stress. What are your thoughts? Does the pain in the side, wrapping on the back, mean the cancer has spread to bones/muscles? If yes, what is the chance of a treatment?

Oh, I have the first appointment with the specialist tonight....

Yours in total panic

  • Oh yes I can relate to that - "sticking my head in the sand" Only now acknowledging the warning signs, explosive diarrhea and accidents, lower back pain. Stomach ache/bloating. Only after a colonoscopy 3 weeks ago (following dodgy poo stick result). Omg yes I have a tumour in lower bowel - booked in for surgery on 31st of this month. Things are now happening quickly but wish I had not played the ostrich/martyr for so many months!

  • Hi KathH

What surgery are you having? If you click on peoples names you can read their back story. I had a LAR with Ileostomy. The cancers in the bin. Best place for it

  • It's not "head in the sand", really... I have had a few of these symptoms since I was 18.... constipation, bloating, discomfort. Many of the colon cancer first symptoms can be anything. If we ran to the doctor every time we have a sign that something might be wrong we wouk never leave the surgery.... especially after 50 / 55, when ackes and pains become a normal part of life.

Good luck with your op. Medecine make progress every day. We are in the best hands!

  • Hi Artsie having a right hemii colectomy. See the surgeon today and he is very positive that it will be straightforward. Just be glad to get it over with now. Roll on the 31st!

  • Yes - only positive thoughts!

  • Ok. My turn to look a fool. The colonoscopy did not show anything. A little irritation,  a small polyp (5mm, removed). No cancer... where do all the symptoms I had come from then?? The doc organised a contrast CT scan for Tuesday. If nothing comes of that he says this has "just" been a case of very bad IBS. This goes to show 2 things: we get scared more than we should and 2 doctor Google is a charlatan.

Thanks everyone for answering. This place is a God sent for our mental health!

  • Pleased for you  . Dr Google would most definitely be in “retraining “ if it were at all possible .
This sounds very positive and I would not underestimate IBS ability to cause havoc with your digestive track .

I hope you can have a good weekend .

  • After I was told I had cancer I Dr Googled and read that I had this like incredibly rare cancer with terrible survival stats - then when i went to get my diagnosis and results it couldn’t be further from the truth! Please avoid Dr Google he’s a ménage to your mental health. Lots of hugs!
