Recently diagnosed with 4cm tumour in lower rectum. Just found out that the spots on my liver which were picked up at the start, are cancerous, having spread up from the bowel, so now I'm fighting on two fronts. Chemo to start soon though dreading it, radiotherapy too. The one positive is that there has been no further spread.
Hi oceanchild
Sorry to hear you have spread to the liver but its positive there is no other spread. There are a lot of us around that have/had mets to the liver. I was diagnosed in Nov 20 and had a good response to chemo which opened up the option to have a liver resection in Nov 21 and my liver has been clear since then. Chemo can be tough but they will be keeping an eye on you, just don't suffer and let your team know as there are all sorts of lotions and potions to tackle the side effects. Radiotherapy is fine, I just felt extremely tired.
Make sure you keep hydrated and rest when you need to. You can do this, one step at a time.
Thank you for your reassuring, kind words. I'm determined to beat all this. I see my consultant again tomorrow when I will know more. Stay well! Kevin x
Hi oceanchild
I had rectal cancer in 2019, and secondary in the liver was diagnosed in 2022. Try not to get ahead of yourself with the enormity of your situation. My secondary was missed back in 2020. I had 5 weeks chemo tablets alongside radiotherapy to shrink the tumour in the rectum. Surgery was after 6 months from diagnosis. The liver mets, as they call them, once discovered meant a liver resection. In 2022, but no chemotherapy. My consultant told me that the bowel cancer must have spread to the liver back in 2019. You may find that they’ll treat yours separately too. Whatever happens know that this community will be here for you with advice support. Fingers crossed for a positive outcome.
Hi Oceanchild. I am sorry to hear about your diagnosis- it sounds like the two of are in the same situation. I got the exact same diagnosis a few weeks ago. I am sending all my love. Let me know how you’re going on. I am waiting for my treatment to start, and to be honest I can’t wait to start fighting this shit! We will make it! Take care! X

Hi mrtiguan
Going back into chemo actually gave my mum more shrinkage and a second liver resection . You might also like to look at Wellspring . If you click on their name you can read their bio .
Hope it brings you more shrinkage .

Oh Jools63 . The waiting for scan results is tough but my mum had two liver resections and her consultants parting words where he would be happy to go in again ! I always held onto that .
Also with treatments like radio frequency ablation etc there are other avenues to explore .
Got to have our go to plans at the ready !
Take care ,
