Back to hospital on the 5th and a date will be arranged for surgery, but I just want it out noooowwwww lol. Feel like I have a time bomb in my stomach! Every twitch and niggle and pain I think oops there we go it’s spreading now.
on the plus side I went back to work this week - luckily I am a medical secretary in mental health so am surrounded by mental health professionals, one of which used to work in cancer services, so it’s been a lovely week of positive conversations and support
Hi NicoleBee
Congrats on getting a date for surgery.
I think you mentioned previously dependency on weight loss before surgery - so with less than a month to go, that means you must be doing really well. Keep it up.
I'd say go and enjoy the next 4 weeks as boosting positivity, energy and wellbeing pre-op can significantly help your post surgery recovery.
Oh , totally understandable but they will get that out and you will be cancer free very soon and this will all be in your rear view mirror !
Keep using those in-house benefits of your work . That’s rather handy .
Hope you have a good day .

No date as yet, but am back in on the 5th and will hopefully have a date then! In the meantime feel like I had a time bomb in me
Oh bless you NicoleBee.
Please be reassured that many much more experienced people than me on this forum often write that bowel cancer is slow growing. So that would imply the cancer itself is unlikely to do much in a month. Perhaps think of it hibernating for a month?
Try and use this time to be super kind to yourself - i truly believe it can significantly help your post surgery recovery
Sending big virtual hug
Hi Nicolebee,
I hope you get your date on 5th, sounds like you are doing really well in preparation.I have my op next Monday and to say I am all over the place is an understatement.I went on Friday to meet the surgeon and he very calmly slotted into conversation that he’ll see me on 20th at 7.30am. I too feel every tweak as an ‘is this it?’I just want it out! But am terrified!
Hi Atticus - congrats on your surgery date. I think i recall you thought it woukd be April, so greats it's come in more to the usual timescale.
If there's anything we can do to reduce your fear, just ask as there are many of us here that have had surgery, so someone is likely to have experience or info that could help
Thank you.
The original surgeon who was doing it in April had to go on unexpected leave so I have been put on another ones list and he had spaces in March on his lists.
I was told I would be encouraged to drink and eat quite soon after coming from recovery but that I might struggle with no appetite so to bring snacks/drinks I enjoy in. Does anyone have any tips please? Im unsure as I perceive hospital to be very warm places so not sure of how to store things if they need chilling etc . I’m having right hemicolectomy.
When I had my HAR in July/Aug last year, right in the middle of the heat wave. I asked the nurses to store any perishables in their fridge which they were more than happy to do. I just placed them in a plastic bag with my name on it. Yoghurts and mousses. They were able to supply me with chilled fruit juices . Good luck with your surgery xx
I had my pre-op last Wednesday and Thursday, also the removal of the last two polyps. Like yourself I'm waiting for a date for the actual operation and really struggling with my mental health. I'm fine when I'm around others, it's evening/night when I'm at my worst. My head starts going through all the possibilities of what could go wrong. Need to get that phone call with a date and get the bloody thing out.
Fingers crossed we both get it done soon
Hi Tony
I agree the waiting is especially hard. I found the moment I went to bed my head would be taken over with Cancer and every twinge meant it was there
meditation Apps helped on my phone they gave me head space. Be careful of some after one weeks free trial they take a subscription. I lost fifty pounds that way! Couldn’t listen to the app after I got stung so total waste
Pelvic floor I was very sure to do them at least three times a day. It helps prepare you and I felt I was fighting back
Good luck
Kind regards
Ann
