Simon has just been 21 hours in a cupboard in a&e after his pains in chest last night after his chemo tablets. He arrived last night not knowing if heart or chemo tablets ecg and bloods ok they put him in the room that the nurses didn't know he was in there nothing happen all night just left on trolley. Rang emergency response who told me the hospital only has a oncologist consultant on a Thursday they are based at different major hospital so the doctor would have to ring them. I Long story but after trying all day for someone from oncology please go see him he stopped taking chemo because of pain at long last at 6pm from 9 last night he is in emergency assessement unit to be monitored for his heart before they decide on his chemo nest treatment
He has had one tough time Jkee and you must be absolutely exhausted . What a time you had trying to get him the right assessment. You definitely should have been given more assistance when you were expressing chest pain symptoms on a chemo that has that listed as a potential side effect .
Hopefully now he is getting a thorough assessment of his needs . Imagine being kept in a side area all night . He must be the nicest human being to put up with that .
Hope you both have a better night .

I can relate Jkee although Jay's predicament I would say is minor compared to what your Simon went through. 21 hours shocking!! Jay got readmitted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Glasgow on the 14th February (of all days). He had become dehydrated again and had another infection he had just come out two weeks previous after being in High Dependency with urosepsis so think it came back as symptoms were similar to the last time shivering and a drop in blood pressure. The ambulance came for him at 4.30 that day and we hit rush hour traffic eventually getting to the hospital at just after 5 that evening. He was taken into the Acute Services this time -part of A & E I take it. They took him through and I had to go to the waiting area. Then they brought him back out again and that was just to get his details. Then we had to sit and wait again and eventually someone came out and took him to get blood taken. To cut a long story short we waited 5 hours for him to get into a cubicle and then more bloods were taken and we were left sitting again in the cubicle he was exhausted by that time and I think just happy to get into a bed. I eventually got home at 2a.m. the following morning and luckily our son was on hand to come and pick me up, The NHS is so overun just now I thought we were bad but not as bad as you both had it. Take Care.

Good morning it was nightmare from the start of this I have had to fight for him yesterday after i demanded they did something they took him for c t came back someone else was in the cupboard 10 people waiting for beds . Simon just says as per usual don't make a fuss they are busy. Hospital is 24 miles away not a cancer hospital the oncology consultant only there on Thursday I found out last night she is at the large city hospital if I had known that I would have done chemo at city but the rapid response said if we ever feel he need us we will admit him but because it was chest pain they couldn't do much so now in assessment ward wait for eco scan just to be sure not heart took off chemo until they are sure no idea what happens now soo slow
Thank you Court Simon is the nicest man that is the problem will not ask question or bother nurses I have to fight for him for everything they have taken him of the tablets 4 in morning 4 at night which I think was too much because he has lost lots of weight he is in assessment unit just waiting for eco scan which was suppose to be yesterday soo slow no idea what happens now
That sounds like us. The hospitals we use are in Glasgow but situated a distance away. We use one where Jay goes for his oncology appointments about 10 minutes away. Chemo has not been good to him either. He tolerated it well at the start he was on CAPOX Capecitabine and Oxipalatin and the first 3 sessions went well but after the 4th he became ill and it had to be stopped. A few months later they put him on 5FU- Folfox and Irinotecan. He got one session of that done and when they did the blood tests for his next session they came up showing dehydration so he had to be admitted to hospital as his kidney levels had reduced. Found out it was the chemo that did the kidney damage. Second time he went in for an infection which turned out to be urosepsis and was told we were lucky to get him in when we did and this last recent time he was in for another infection possibly the tail end of the sepsis coming back. This has all happend within the last 3 months. He's home now and hopefully staying home this time. It's a nightmare! Hope things get better for you both. Take Care.
