Probably will be given irinotecan (on its own, nothing else, no pills) do I need to avoid cold drinks and food?

Stage 4 bowel cancer, op on bowel, removed it, chemo, op on liver, failed by 1.5 mm to remove it all, so offered chemo with a 30% chance of it being effective and at best if it is another 2 years. But right now interested in what I have to avoid while taking it. Thanks, Doug

  • I'm on irinotecan at the moment (combined with 5FU and fluorouracil), and I don't need to avoid cold as I did with oxaliplatin. Just really tired and now at cycle 9 the mouth ulcers are getting a bit worse but nothing really bad.

    Hope that helps.

  • Hi Cecile, I hope you don’t mind me messaging but I’m about to start FOLFIRI next week what main side affects have you experienced? I’ve been told I may loose my hair I wondered if you experienced this and if you have any hair care tips for someone about to start?
I am going to try the cold cap and hope it helps.

many thanks and hope you’re doing ok
