After 15 Irinotecan/Folfiri treatments Im starting Xelox tomorrow.
Im quite concerned about the possible laryngeal spasm. How have other people coped with this side effect.
Avoid cold drinks; does this mean tap water too? How cold is cold? It is all a bit vague.
Can I use hand gel, water wipes?
Any suggestions, hints and tips much appreciated.
I live alone so have to self care.Thank you in advance.
Hi ,
Hope it all goes well tomorrow. This is how I helped my mum. she had one cycle where she experienced it but it was at the end of her infusion and the team were on hand . She never experienced it again as there are things they can do to prevent it like slowing down the infusion . We did however have a big scarf wrapped around her mouth and nose when leaving the hospital . We had a flask with lukewarm water to sip on during the drive home .
Also reassured her it was a sensation and her airways were still wide open despite how it felt .
At home we took the edge off cold drinks by either allowing them to come to room temp or adding a splash of hot water .
Wee white Cotten gloves are handy for holding cutlery and opening fridges etc .
Lots of hints in this thread from people who have been through it .
Take care ,
Court
