Oxaliplatin side effects

Hi all. I have just started the second cyle (of four) of Oxaliplatin and Capecetabine. Like everyone else I am suffering from the tingling fingertips. Last time this wore off by the by the end of week 1. This time it is much more intense and I am having to wear gloves to handle things even at room temperature on day 4. My question is this - is anyone further down this journey and did the effect wear off? I heve ready totally contradictory articles about the risk of this side effect being permanent?

  • Hi Wessex Wandere, I think it varies from person to person I had 4 rounds of CAPOX, finishing December 2022 and found that the tingling wore off after 3 days on each cycle . What is strange is that now I am suffering from periodic neuropathy now, mainly in my feet. I will be sitting down and I get a sensation like when you are walking over sand and it suddenly gives way. Just wearing extra socks and moisturising, both help. I have a colleague who still suffers 6 years after treatment finished but that is a rare case. Small price to pay to get rid of those rogue cells. Good luck with the rest of your treatment. May we all beat this disease xxx

  • Thanks Mel, thats helpful to know. Good luck on your journey. xx

  • Hi I had Capox and had the tingling and throat spasms for the 2 weeks of treatment each cycle.however I was fine on the rest week.I have had no lasting problems apart from occasionally not being able to swipe on a tablet or phone due to altered fingerprints.

    All the best
