Hello all
I was diagnosed in April 21 with stage 4 bowel cancer which had spread to my liver quite substantially. I started Chemotherapy and had 8 sessions every 2 weeks of folfoxiri. This had good effect and allowed me to have a liver resection where they cleared my liver after removing 35-40%. Due to being off Chemo my rectal tumour had grown and 5 weeks of Radiotherapyand Chemo tablets which had a good result of tumour area and Lymph nodes. I was scheduled for my Lowe anterior resection of my bowel and 2 weeks before op I was informed the liver had showed back in my liver in 5 areas which were not present prior to liver resection. I went back in same Chemo regime which worked well leaving one small spot in between two major blood vessels which ruled out further liver surgery or abulation at that stage.
It was decided that my primary rectal cancer could be operated on and in Oct 22 had my anterior resection which left me with a temporary ileostomy and op went well and I was scheduled for my reversal op on 17th January. Unfortunately saw oncologist who said liver metastases had grown back quickly in 5 to 6 areas and so I would need to be placed back on Chemo and reversal op would be off. I then had two days warning for reversal op on 9th jan and Chemo date put back two weeks from 16th. Reversal went well and healing well and started Chemo on Tuesday 31st Jan to deal with liver again. Day before Chemo started had oncologist appointment and I was informed no option for further op on liver and so Chemo is only way forward with possible Abulation on some metastases in liver if Chemo not effective. As we all know with this disease the rollercoaster is massive and this has knocked me as you can imagine seeing palliative Chemo in writing.
I was just wondering if anyone is experiencing anything similar and know that lots of factors come into these things but how anyone is fairing and how it's working. I have had good response to Chemo on all occasions with tumour reduction.
Any advice or experience would be welcomed.
Thank you in advance

Hi,
my mum was diagnosed with rectal cancer in august. She had her radiotherapy followed by 7 weeks of chemo. They said initially it has spread to liver but it’s very tiny. Recently she had her scan and the doctor said nothing in the liver and also the primary tumour has reduced in size. Before even she started her radiotherapy she had the stoma surgery. Now they are saying surgery is not the best option and only palliative chemotherapy. We are very heart broken . I am thinking to ask a second opinion from a different consultant. Will see.
All the very best to you. Lots of love ️
Hi
Thank you for your reply. I'm very sorry to hear about your mum.
I did have liver resection and they did clear my liver so if your mums is small then possible option surely but that will be a question to ask.
I wish you all the best and get the answers you need.
Lots of love and best wishes
