Well, I am feeling both relieved & very fortunate with a small sprinkle of apprehension,
My surgeon wasn't at my OPA yesterday but another surgeon did cover his clinic and went through my results and options.
Me & hubby were so relieved that our manifesting of "its only a tumour" was picked up by the universe and brought into fruition. So far, it is only a tumour, T3 & no spread to liver & lungs.
What followed yesterday, and why I feel fortunate as I know some people have their plans but have not started them as of yet, was a string of visits to various people getting me ready for an anterior resection next Wednesday (18th Jan).
I left the hospital after 4 hours with a big bag of booklets, instructions, charts, exercises, meds, bowel prep etc etc...... I just need to make an excel spreadsheet so I know what I'm doing & when. Slowly digesting it all in small sections in between working from home.
I came home very impressed at the care & support I was given and the sudden speed of moving on after the 5 week wait since diagnoses at colonoscopy & disappointment at not being discussed at MDT before Christmas. I think I did my wait & am well & truly on the move. I do feel a little nervy about the surgery, the risks they have to tell you about are a bit of a shocker hearing them all at once. However, my mantra for the coming week is "I woke up from surgery with no complications"
Thank you to everyone who has shared their stories and offered support - the support here & facts from MacMillan really prepared me for yesterday & I'm sure will continue to do so.
Now to actually start packing a bag!

This is wonderful news . So pleased to read this .
I totally agree with you . The nursing assistants and nurses were working so hard with my parents and it was great to see . Gave me such confidence in the care they were providing in circumstances where they were even short staffed .
How have you been today ?

Hi court
I’ve done a lot of sleeping today. Been up for a few hours this evening but back to bed shortly. I’ve got quite a bit of pain down my right side, particularly when I try deep breaths in. Mentioned it to the nurse when she called today & she said quite often you do feel more pain when home. Wind & bowels all moving
I will call them tomorrow if pain relief continues not to help very much. My resection side is feeling just a little tender so all good there I hope.
Just about to do my first blood thinning injection & have bedtime meds & back to bed.

Someone messed up somewhere. Only enough meds for the weekend which I kept trying to tell them when they checked in on me.
No one really wanting to help, each advising to ring the other. Conflicting messages from within the enhanced recovery team. Fortunately I’m not on my own & my husband went to the GP surgery where the discharge summary had no instructions for meds.
Have had a very emotionally draining day today but rescued by a very empathic GP who wanted to get me back on track…
Thats so frustrating when you rely on the meds at this point . Good job your GP was accessible. But an additional stress you could have done without . Thankfully we too have a GP pulling the bits together . Squeezing mum in tomorrow!
Hope that’s you back on track but you do wonder what happens to the people who can’t navigate this sort of situation. So sad !
Take care ,

Exactly what I was saying court . You come home with so much info & instructions to follow. After such a big op it's totally overwhelming.
A nurse from the significant concern number called in the evening (returning my call from midday) & although not her fault personally, she was very apologetic & wrote a report to send up to enhanced recovery. She agreed with me that a very important step had been missed out in my discharge.
Hope your Mum's appointment goes well today.
