Immunotherapy - Metatastic Colorectal Cancer

Hi - As a result of metatastic colorectal cancer (it travelled to my lung via the blood - recently removed), I'm facing Oxaliplatin + Capecitabine chemo for 6 months and I've been looking into alternatives. I've researched immunotherapy and I was wondering if anybody here can offer me an insight into their experience so that I can get a well rounded feel for what I could expect by going this route.

Thank you for any feedback.

Best - Steve

  • Hi

I think it depends if your cell type is suitable for immunotherapy.  has probably the most experience using immunotherapy. If you search her post you can see how she managed it .

My mum is being considered for target therapy like biological agents . Again I think you have to have the right cell type . Is this an option for you .

Nice to see you are safely through surgery . That was the chemo combination my mum has previously used over two years . One year at a lower dose which was much more manageable.

    take care ,

  • Thank you so much for this Court. Sorry to hear your mum's going through "it".

I'm not sure if my cell type is the right one, so this is a big thing to consider/look into. I'll take a look at Moi2, thank you again.

    Very best

  • Hi Steve, I have been on immunotherapy,  nivolumab for almost 3 years, Court is quite right, I am a candidate for it because I have Lynch syndrome/dMMR(gremlins mutation in PMS2). Normally drug is used for 2 years, but because I've been stable since 2019 they are keeping me on it for now. It often doesn't work if you haven't got one of certain mutations. Speak to your oncologist, they do therer very best for us xx

    Hi

The link above is quite good at explaining the process of how targeted therapies and immunotherapy work compared to chemo and who benefits . Covers cell types and funding .

Your oncologist should have all the cell type information.

Your GP might also have been advised of it .

A quick email should help you get the information you need .

All the very best . Hope your recent surgery was a smooth recovery .

Bit gutted its popped back up in mum . However saying that she is working on keeping herself healthy .

    All the very best ,

  • Hi

So lovely to hear you are doing so well . That’s made my day !

Sad times for our family . Lost my dad and at the same time mum was very sick and in hospital for a month . Cancer is back .

However she is doing so well and trying very hard with her exercise program . Still deciding with the oncologist the best way forward but she has options . Just want kind ones at this stage .

Take special care . You are definitely our poster girl for immunotherapy.
