So as predicted my test came back positive.. waiting for doc to call but can anyone tell me what to except . What happens before the colonoscopy...

Has anyone had one after a positive fit and it wasn't camcer.

  • Hi.
This is a great place to get lots of info. Others will be along with much better info I just wanted to say hello.
Lots of people have IBS, Diverticulitis and polyps. My husband had all of the above and has had several tests. He has not had Cancer. So please don’t panic

I had a letter saying I’d get a call then I booked for a colonoscopy. I found the whole system so reassuring.
    Good luck

Try not to overthink. One day at a time

  • Hi ,

I think only around ten percent of all positive cases are actually cancer . Others are different conditions that might require attention of a different nature .

    Hope that helps .

  • I know of two people who had positive FIT tests and clear colonoscopy. As  says only ten percent of positive FIT results are cancer.

    Good luck!

  • What happens before the colonoscopy

You'll probably be asked to do a low residue, low fibre diet for a few days (pretty easy if you like quorn, chicken and fish!), then you swallow quite a bit of laxative (usually in a favoured drink format). You'll need to stay close to toilet for a few hours while the magic happens and some nice baby wet wipes but help you feel clean and fresh.

On the day, lovely nurses will talk you thro things, do paperwork, etc and generally support you thro the process. Some people opt for a low level sedation but this is optional.

You might like a friendly, reassuring face to pick you afterwards, as in some cases the specialist can give results there and then.

  • Think it is around 2% of positive FIT tests turn out to be colon cancer according to the information that was provided by the bowel Screening programme
