So oncologist has reduced my oxy dose as the Peripheral neuropathy is getting quite bad, how long after reducing dose should I notice a difference, had my new lower dose Friday but the cold sensitivity is still like super bad, I’m really struggling now with fluids as can’t stand any thing warm drink wise and obviously when you do drink anything remotely cold you get that horrible crushed glass feeling at the back of your throat. It’s starting to really get to me now all this, I have 3 cycles left could she reduce the oxy any more as I don’t know how much more I can take of this :(

  • Hi. It’s horrible isn’t it and such a bad time of year for it. It’s hard to say how quickly a reduction in dosage would have effect - neuropathy in itself can improve over time but I still have numb feet from mine - I would hope that the throat spasms would improve quite quickly but perhaps you could run it past your support nurse or the chemo team?

Cold drink wise I used to drink blackcurrant juice with a splash of hot water added to take the edge off?
Hope things start to improve quickly for you

    Take care

  • Hi! I had 12 cycles of FOLFOX 3 years ago and stopped oxaliplatin at cycle 10 due to peripheral neuropathy. My throat wasn't too bad, it was mostly my hands and feet and I was living in New Zealand at the time, with a much kinder climate. I found the neuropathy got worse over the following 3 months, by which stage I struggled to do little things like putting earrings on but then it slowly got better. I can still slightly feel it in my toes when it's cold (sleeping with woolly socks!). As Karen suggested, talk to your nurse about it as you need to make sure you keep hydrated.

    Take care,
